A list of best golf movies of all times
The Legend of Bagger Vance
The Legend of Bagger Vance is a story about golf that anyone can enjoy. This classic, by Steven Pressfield, tells the tale of Rannulph Junuh and his quest for revenge. The novel follows Junuh from 1898 to 1940 as he struggles with his fate. His journey starts out in the South where he becomes known as the best golfer around. He enters into a match against Bobby Jones who is on the verge of winning every major award there is for golfing talent at this time (1930).
Throughout his life, Junuh grapples with decisions and relationships that lead him to success or leave him struggling for meaning in life. Eventually, it comes down to one last game on Augusta National Golf Course with Bobby Jones himself .
The Greatest Game Ever Played
The Greatest Game Ever Played movie is a great way to spend an evening. This movie not only entertains but teaches as well. It shows how much work it takes to be the best in your field and what you have to go through just to make a name for yourself. The main character, Francis Ouimet, was born into poverty and had a difficult childhood filled with health problems that would plague him his entire life.
When he becomes an adult he starts working at golf clubs where one of his jobs is making holes for golf course greens by hand with a shovel or rake. He eventually gets promoted from general laborer up until being the head pro at the club before the US Open in 1913 when he wins a $10 bet on himself against Harry.
The film stars Shia LaBeouf as Francis Ouimet, Stephen Dillane as George Duncan Sr., newcomer Aaron Yoo as Young Francis Ouimet, Alison Lohman as Alice Stanley and Justin Rose (golfer) playing himself in his first acting role.
I recently saw the movie Tommy’s Honour. It is a true story about Scottish golfing legend, Tommy Morris and his son, Thomas Jr., who also became one of the best players in the world.
The film tells this incredible tale of success and heartbreak spanning over four decades with stunning cinematography and breathtaking golf courses.
Tommy Sr.’s legacy lives on through his grandson, Jamie, who has followed in their legendary footsteps to become number two in the World Golf Rankings at just 22 years old!
ommy is a talented, young Scottish golfer who has been taught by his father to play the game. He enters a golfing competition that he believes will be an easy win for him and his dad, but Tommy’s plans are interrupted when he falls in love with Jenny. Tommy must now choose between two things: the girl of his dreams or his father’s approval and teaching.
I have seen Tin Cup enough times to know that golfers take their game very seriously. The level of concentration and precision needed to execute the perfect swing is intensely difficult. Golfers have to make sure they are on the right path with each swing or they risk losing valuable time at the course.
The Tin Cup movie is a comedy that was released in 1996. The film stars Kevin Costner, Rene Russo, and Cheech Marin. It tells the story of Roy McAvoy (Costner), a former golf pro who wants to make it big again by entering the U.S Open even though he doesn’t have any money for entry fees or equipment.
He meets Lucy Guzman (Russo) on his way to Texas and agrees to work as her caddy if she pays him $5000 at the end of the summer which he uses for his entry fee and equipment expenses but when they get there he finds out that she only has $500 left so they team up together with another guy named Romeo Posada (Marin).
Seven Days in Utopia
What are you doing on the weekend? If you are looking for a movie to watch, maybe try Seven Days in Utopia. It is about Ben Crane (played by Matthew McConaughey), who takes his family to visit his father-in-law’s ranch in Utopia, Texas. While there he decides to enter an amateur golf tournament and wins the whole thing! The film also stars Bill Paxton and Lucas Black as well as some other familiar faces from past movies such as Sissy Spacek and Dwight Yoakam.
Seven Days in Utopia is a movie about two friends who take a road trip to the world’s most perfect town, Utopia. After an accident on the way there, they are forced to stay for seven days and explore what life could be like if everything went right.
Hole in One
Ever wanted to learn how to play golf? Hole in One is the movie for you. This Hollywood blockbuster teaches you all of the basics, from grip and stance to club selection and swinging. Join a small group of beginners as they set out on their journey through golfing 101 with hilarious results.
A good hole in one shot will be composed of the golfer hitting the ball off the tee and following his/her club head with the camera all the way through until impact on the green.
We all know that golf is a game of skill and patience. It’s not easy to get the ball into one hole with no more than three shots, but when you do it feels like pure bliss. The Hole in One movie is about a man who had the time of his life when he smashed the ball straight into one hole on his first try.
Pat and Mike
Pat and Mike is a movie about two high school friends, one of which is struggling with addiction. The other friend tries to help his friend get clean, but the addict continues to relapse. Eventually Pat and Mike make it through their struggles with addiction together.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted movie to watch with your significant other this Valentine’s Day, consider Pat and Mike starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. The film is set in the 1860s, when women had few rights, so it’s easy to see why some would find the story frustrating. What makes this movie worth watching however is that both characters are strong-willed individuals who do what they want despite society’s expectations.
The Short Game
Tired of watching hours and hours of golf on TV? We have some good news for you. The Short Game, a documentary about the world’s best short game players was just released in theaters this past week.
Every golfer knows that the short game is a vital component of their game. The only problem is, most people don’t know how to practice it. That’s where this blog comes in! We’re going to discuss why practicing your short game is so important and provide some tips for improving your skills.
Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius
The name Bobby Jones may not immediately ring a bell, but the words “Grand Slam” will. In 1930, he became the first man to achieve this feat in golf. With his four victories that year at The Open Championship, U.S. Open Championship, British Amateur Championship, and U.S. Amateur Championship he was considered by many to be the greatest golfer of all time and one of America’s most influential athletes of the 20th century.
Bobby Jones is one of the best golfers to ever live. You may not have heard about him if you don’t play golf, but he has a long list of accomplishments that will make anyone want to pick up this sport. He won 13 majors in his career and was the first player to win all four major tournaments in one year: The U.S. Open, the British Open, The Master’s Tournament, and finally the PGA Championship for an unprecedented “Grand Slam.”
I was looking for a movie to watch last night and it’s been a while since I’ve seen The Caddy, so I decided to give it another go. This golf-based movie stars Bill Murray as the character Carl Spackler who is an animal control employee by day but also doubles as the groundskeeper at Bushwood Country Club.
This is an old black and white movie that has been remastered and released on DVD. You can find it on Amazon or at your local DVD store.
A few weeks ago, I was walking to the store when I saw a man with his two kids. He had their hands in his as they walked towards me and then past me. They were laughing and having a great time together; he turned around and said “thanks!” as we passed. It made my day – it’s so nice to see people getting along like that!
What if you didn’t have to do this alone? What if there was someone who could help you through difficult times? The Squeeze movie is an upcoming Christian film about family relationships set against the backdrop of divorce. From the trailer, it looks like a heartwarming story about how love can blossom even after heartache has been felt.
The Squeeze movie is a refreshing new take on the heist genre. The film follows an expert criminal who, after one of his jobs goes wrong, has to rely on some unlikely allies in order to pull off what might be his final big score.
Bad Golf My Way
I have a confession to make. I am not a golfer. In fact, the last time I played golf was when I was in high school and we were playing as part of gym class. It is also worth mentioning that this was over twenty years ago so you can imagine my skills are much worse now than they were back then!
The good news for me though is that there are plenty of ways to enjoy golf even if you don’t know how to play it or haven’t touched a club in decades like me. One way is by watching movies about it like Bad Golf My Way which just came out on DVD (see below).
I’ve been playing golf for over a decade now and I’m still not good. In fact, I’m pretty terrible. But it doesn’t matter because my goal is to have fun while being bad at the sport.
There are plenty of movies that take place in a golf course, but there is only one movie about the life and times of a greenskeeper. The Greenskeeper movie follows the life of Ron, an aging man who takes care of the green at his local public golf course. At first glance, he seems to have a simple job with few responsibilities, but it soon becomes clear that this isn’t true. His boss keeps him on his toes and expects him to do everything from mowing the lawns to cooking breakfast for players who stay overnight after tournaments.
A recent film, The Greenskeeper, is a story about the life of a young boy who was born in poverty. He’s determined to make it out and get rich.
The movie shows how he uses his talent for golf to become a pro golfer and then goes on to win tournaments all over the country. His fame grew so quickly that he became one of the most famous celebrities in America- with paparazzi following him everywhere and reporters asking for interviews left right and center!
